Lyme Disease And Your Pet

Written by Editor on Saturday, May 19th, 2007 in Pets, Disease.

Lyme disease can be treated with antibiotics, because the disease is caused by a bacterium that is introduced to your pet through a bite from a tick carrying the disease.

Antibiotics will be taken for a long period of time and some times and may not be very effective if your pet has had the disease for a long period of time. Sometimes, your veterinarian can switch the antibiotics so see if that may cure the disease. But, if your pet does get bitten again, the disease can reoccur.  Read more about Lyme Disease and your pet.

What Causes Bladder Infections (UTIs)?

Written by ang@goodroots.ca on Thursday, May 10th, 2007 in Health, Family, Medicine, General, Disease.

Nearly 85% of UTIs are caused by the bacteria Escherichia coli, or E. coli — for short. When the bacteria pass through the urethra (the narrow urine canal that connects the bladder to the outside), they can get inside the bladder and cause an infection. Some females get urinary tract infections more frequently, this may be because of the differences in the shape and length of the urethra in different people. A female with a shorter urethra may get more UTIs. Most women’s urethras are only about 40mm long. That’s about 1 and ½ inches. Males generally get fewer UTIs than females because they have longer urethras.

Glucosamine And Diabetes - The Cause?

Written by Editor on Saturday, May 5th, 2007 in Health, Disease.

Glucosamine supplements are a popular remedy for arthritis pain relief, especially for osteoarthritis. Unlike NSAIDs and other anti-inflammatory drugs, the pain relief provided by glucosamine lasts even after a person is no longer taking the supplements. This is because glucosamine helps repair damaged cartilage in joints. Arthritis pain goes away because the problem is fixed, not because inflammation is temporarily suppressed.  Read the rest of the article about glucosamine and diabetes.

Mesothelioma Lung Cancer Lawsuits

Written by Editor on Sunday, April 29th, 2007 in Health, Disease.

Mesothelioma is a rare but deadly type of cancer usually caused by exposure to asbestos or asbestos-containing products. The mesothelium is a thin mucous membrane that covers most major organs, and provides the moisture the organs need to move properly. Lubrication allows organs to move in order to circulate blood in the heart, or infuse it with oxygen in the lungs, or process food properly in the gastrointestinal tract.

Is There An Acid Reflux Cure?

Written by Editor on Wednesday, April 25th, 2007 in Health, Disease.

Is there an acid reflux cure? Yes and no. Yes, because it can be treated effectively and relieved, but also no, because researchers have yet to find a root cause and it can always come back. Acid reflux treatment regimens include medications, lifestyle changes, and stress management. Depending on severity, acid reflux can be curbed with as little as only a few behavioral modifications such as quitting smoking and eating better to powerful acid reflux medication treatments under a physician’s supervision.
