Natural Acne Treatments

Written by beckygelber@comcast.net on Sunday, October 28th, 2007 in Health, Skin Care.

You should also know that you can make a home treatment for acne even out of grocery-bought products. A mask made of cooked oatmeal can be allowed to sit on the face for 15 minutes - this helps in relieving acne. Aloe and witch hazel are also two popular herbal products that can cure acne. You can also stay out in the sun for a bit - the ultraviolet rays of the sun may be an effective “natural laser” treatment.

Studies Show Carbohydrate Overload Can Lead To Acne Outbreaks

Written by beckygelber@comcast.net on Sunday, October 28th, 2007 in Health, Medicine, Skin Care.

In another study, researchers implicate the high levels of refined carbohydrates (such as bread and cereals) in teenage acne. Following a similar rationale, they suggest that high levels of blood sugars increase the levels of insulin and insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1), which leads to excess production of male hormones. These male hormones then trigger acne outbreaks.

Your Acne Could Be Related To A Food Allergy

Written by beckygelber@comcast.net on Saturday, October 27th, 2007 in Health, General.

If you suspect your acne is caused by a food allergy, begin by increasing your daily amount of water consumption. Then try to rule out the root cause of your potential acne. Common causes of food allergies include dairy products, excess sugar, and certain refined flours and grains. Also, avoid foods rich in iodine, which have been linked to acne. Iodine-rich foods may include salt, liver, cheese, crabs, shellfish, clams, and kelp products. If you consume iodized salt, make the switch to sea salt. If you find dairy products worsening your acne, consider switching to soy or rice milk and cheese products.

Get plenty of sleep, eat a balanced diet, and try to remove yourself from stressful situations. Easier said than done but it is worth making an effort to aleviate your stress.

Reservatrol and Weight Loss

Written by Editor on Friday, September 28th, 2007 in Weight Loss, Health.

Whether moderate drinking is healthy has also been a subject of controversy. Many studies show that cardiovascular health benefits are associated with moderate beer or wine drinking (which has been of particular interest lately with reservatrol in the news so much), while other studies show improved insulin sensitivity. Some experts however, say that alcohol has no place in a fitness lifestyle.

From 500 Pounds To 200 Pounds in Two Years

Written by Editor on Monday, May 28th, 2007 in Weight Loss, Health.

In 1990, I tipped the scales at 475 pounds and my waist was 55 inches (at least). Over the next two and a half years, I lost 288 pounds, dropping to a low of 187 pounds, and I fit into a size 38 pair of jeans. But I wasn’t finished yet. In the years that followed, I took up the bodybuilding lifestyle and slowly but surely added over 50 pounds of lean muscle while dropping even more body fat. That brought my total weight loss to over 300 pounds. Today, I weigh 240 pounds of lean muscle and I’m in the best shape of my life.

Hoodia Authenticity In Question

Written by Editor on Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007 in Weight Loss, Health.

Based upon CBS reports, Hoodia is definitely a promising appetite suppressant for many people attempting to maintain a weight loss program. However, consumers are obligated to do a little research before purchasing Hoodia at the local health food store or the Internet marketplace. As with any health plan, consulting a family doctor is extremely important. He/she can determine whether additional health concerns will preclude exercise and dietary changes, including supplements like Hoodia. The body still needs the proper nutrition and adequate hydration. Since Hoodia suppresses both hunger and thirst, making sure to follow a healthy diet is extremely important. Also, verify the quality of Hoodia being purchased.  Read the facts and find out if you are buying authentic Hoodia.

If You’re Going To Cheat - What Are The Best Foods?

Written by Editor on Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007 in Weight Loss, Health.

The truth is that even if you’re committed to a healthy lifestyle (you know, you eat well, exercise regularly, rarely overindulge), temptation is still everywhere. If you’re not careful, one loving look from a juicy burger across the room could be the end of you. An innocent night out for hot wings and beer may result in your being a “bad boy”.

Before launching into the list, let’s point out the obvious; some foods are better than others. Nutrient dense foods should comprise a majority of your diet. But I’m not saying you should live a life of deprivation either. Sometimes splurging on something “bad” is good. After you indulge, however, hop right back on the bandwagon.  Read the Top Foods To Cheat With or other Health Articles.

Optimizing A Vegetarian Diet

Written by Editor on Saturday, May 19th, 2007 in Weight Loss, Health.

While a vegetarian diet is among the healthiest ways to eat, certain nutrients can be lacking on a diet that contains no animal products at all. In particular, many people are concerned that vegans may not get enough protein, calcium and iron from plant-based foods. This is because most people think of eating dairy products for calcium and meats for iron and protein. But it is possible to consume adequate amounts of these nutrients on vegetarian diet. It just takes bit of effort and knowledge about plant-based sources the nutrients.

Stress Can Increase Aging

It is said that Stress can increase aging and take years off of your life and nothing is more stressful than a hurricane season like the hurricane season we had in 2005. My Baby Smokes

Written by tssm@bresnan.net on Wednesday, May 16th, 2007 in Health, Women.

However, when smokers choose to have children, the baby has no choice but to become a smoker as well. Smoking before, and during, pregnancy affects fertility, makes the unborn baby a smoker, increases the odds of stillbirths and miscarriages, results in low birth weight babies, and is a precursor to a child’s health problems long after birth; yet, smoking mothers have options. . .      Read more about the affects of pregnancy and smoking.

What Causes Bladder Infections (UTIs)?

Written by ang@goodroots.ca on Thursday, May 10th, 2007 in Health, Family, Medicine, General, Disease.

Nearly 85% of UTIs are caused by the bacteria Escherichia coli, or E. coli — for short. When the bacteria pass through the urethra (the narrow urine canal that connects the bladder to the outside), they can get inside the bladder and cause an infection. Some females get urinary tract infections more frequently, this may be because of the differences in the shape and length of the urethra in different people. A female with a shorter urethra may get more UTIs. Most women’s urethras are only about 40mm long. That’s about 1 and ½ inches. Males generally get fewer UTIs than females because they have longer urethras.

Glucosamine And Diabetes - The Cause?

Written by Editor on Saturday, May 5th, 2007 in Health, Disease.

Glucosamine supplements are a popular remedy for arthritis pain relief, especially for osteoarthritis. Unlike NSAIDs and other anti-inflammatory drugs, the pain relief provided by glucosamine lasts even after a person is no longer taking the supplements. This is because glucosamine helps repair damaged cartilage in joints. Arthritis pain goes away because the problem is fixed, not because inflammation is temporarily suppressed.  Read the rest of the article about glucosamine and diabetes.

Lowering Your LDL Cholesterol Level

Written by Editor on Friday, May 4th, 2007 in Health, Medicine.

If you can successfully decrease your LDL cholesterol, you will successfully decrease your overall level of cholesterol. Many studies have shown that by decreasing cholesterol you are also decreasing your chance of having a heart attack. This is something that everybody should take very seriously. The bottom line is that the more LDL cholesterol in your bloodstream, the better chance you have of a heart attack. To take this a step further, if you currently have heart disease, you can greatly increase your overall health by lowering your LDL cholesterol count.

Mesothelioma Lung Cancer Lawsuits

Written by Editor on Sunday, April 29th, 2007 in Health, Disease.

Mesothelioma is a rare but deadly type of cancer usually caused by exposure to asbestos or asbestos-containing products. The mesothelium is a thin mucous membrane that covers most major organs, and provides the moisture the organs need to move properly. Lubrication allows organs to move in order to circulate blood in the heart, or infuse it with oxygen in the lungs, or process food properly in the gastrointestinal tract.

Is There An Acid Reflux Cure?

Written by Editor on Wednesday, April 25th, 2007 in Health, Disease.

Is there an acid reflux cure? Yes and no. Yes, because it can be treated effectively and relieved, but also no, because researchers have yet to find a root cause and it can always come back. Acid reflux treatment regimens include medications, lifestyle changes, and stress management. Depending on severity, acid reflux can be curbed with as little as only a few behavioral modifications such as quitting smoking and eating better to powerful acid reflux medication treatments under a physician’s supervision.
